New Clinical Nurses' Experiences with Learning Transfer of Core Basic Nursing Skills

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the learning transfer experiences of core basic nursing skills among new clinical nurses.
Methods: Purposeful and snow ball sampling of 10 new clinical nurses were recruited from intensive care unit and general ward. Semistructured interviews were conducted and Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological methods were applied to analyze data.
Results: Five theme clusters were revealed: greater realizing the importance of clinical skills, confirming core basic nursing skills to become a part of one¡¯s, being swift and competent, gaining confidence connecting core skills training and practical experience, and leading to positive relationships with the superior nurses due to proficient clinical skills.
Conclusion: New clinical nurses realize that core basic nursing skills is very important in clinical settings.
